Potato Day.

Cookinglady

There is just no getting around it:  some days are potato days and that is all there is to it.  All thoughts of Atkins this and GI factor that  go flying out of your rain speckled windows and only the sheer carb laden comfort of a potato or six will do...

Today Darlings is one of those days, and the universe has arranged it so that I have a glut of red roosters available and an oddment of ingredients slowly withering in the fridge, just begging to be magiced into something lip smackingly, butter dribbily  delicious...

So inbetween running in and out of the living room lusting after that wacky little man from The Fratellis, (What is it about quirky men??) on MTV, I have par boiled the potatoes and cut them into half inch thick slices (peel and all),  chopped onion and rashers of streaky bacon, and now when I can drag myself away from the cosiness of my armchair I intend to layer it all in a deep dish,  add a few spoons of cream and knobs of butter between layers, sprinkle with salt and a hefty dose of black pepper, and top with gruyere before cooking for about a thousand years and when law and order is restored after Finley's bedtime, serve it to myself with dark green cabbage and a glass of red wine...

Who wants to join me for a carb fest? I am going nutty night after night in this here little house.

Somebody launch a rescue Alison mission before I turn into Ten Ton Tessie and start stalking curly locked pop stars...

drool. you've got me drool into my keyboard. I so need to try that.

There is NOTHING like a potatofest on these cold damp days. You enjoy Alison!

My hubby makes the best fries/chips ~ the "proper" way (so he says), by frying them twice till they are nice and crispy and full of naughty flavor.

My middle child, Tom, loves potates so much we have nick named him 'Spud!' He likes them in a dish layered, with milk, cheese and nutmeg. I love them baked and filled with butter, a bit of garlic, cheese, coleslaw and sour cream. Actually I think that is just what we might be having tonight and this all must be washed down with a glass of red! Is this a new obsession with curly haired pop stars or has it been lingering for a while?

Sounds fantastic! Just love potatoes any way they're cooked. We used to make cheese and potato pie at school which was basically mashed potatoe mixed with lots and lots of strong cheddar and chopped onion and baked in the oven with more cheese on the top I think. Delicious. The best comfort food. Particularly with a big glass of rich red wine!

Colcannon! Right? I saw it on a cooking show from the UK.

My Mark also left home recently and I`m trying to get used to living alone so yes, I`ll come and join you for a carb fest. Whats for afters?

Yum Yum. I had a baked potato for lunch today and mashed potatoes for dinner! They have to be my favourite food.

Ahhhh, tatties (as mum calls em)..she always said if a few extra folk pop up for dinner you can always throw a few extra potatoes in...which would work in Glasgow (mums hometown) but not here in California, where I believe the potato is "this close" to being outlawed!

Potatoes have only 90 calories... about the same as an apple... So no guilt! (after all, you can tell yourself if you layered apples, cheese, cream, gruyere, etc....), it would all come out the same?????? Ah, sweet logic.... LOve, Your stir crazy in Missouri buddy! Hugs. Your dish sounds divine.

AMEN, Sister!!!!!

Potatoes....oh yum. I am heartily sick of doing Atkins....potatoes sound good and I have to go to the store anyway. Sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do....
Don't worry you're not helping me cheat on my diet. I cheat just fine all on my own...LOL
